Question
Did Alexander Hamilton's financial plan put America first?
Position3 of 4

Alexander who?

This position sidesteps the debate by arguing Alexander Hamilton was not the true architect of the financial plans submitted to Congress in 1790 and 1791. If the plan was not really his, it holds, the question of whether it put America first is beside the point.

  1. It wasn't Hamilton's plan
Hamilton was merely the executor of George Washington's policies. To understand the political and fiscal motives behind the financial plan, one would be better served by examining George Washington's than Hamilton's.
