Question
Can nature heal itself?
Position‹2 of 3›

No Nature cannot heal itself

On this view much of the damage already done cannot be undone by any natural process. Proponents point to losses that are permanent, such as extinction, and to degraded states that now maintain themselves, concluding that deliberate repair is required.

Supporting arguments · 2

  1. Extinction removes something no recovery process can put back
  2. Some damage now sustains itself, so removing the cause does not remove the effect
