Herbert 'Tico' Braun

Professor Herbert Braun is a native speaker of Spanish, English and German. Born in Bogotá Colombia, he is also a citizen of the United States. Teaching at The University of Virginia since 1983, Mr. Braun is known by many of his undergraduate students by his nickname, Tico. He writes in English and Spanish. His first two books, The Assassination of Gaitán, Public Life and Urban Violence in Colombia, and Our Guerrillas, Our Sidewalks: A Journey into the Violence of Colombia, have been translated into Spanish. He published his third book, a study of language and courtesy in Colombia, in April 2018, as La nación sentida. Colombia,1949.
