What are the best methods of protesting?

Proponents of radical understanding argue that protest works by changing minds rather than forcing hands, and that patient engagement with opponents builds the durable public consent that disruptive tactics alone cannot deliver.

Supporters of civil disobedience argue that openly breaking an unjust law, and accepting the penalty for doing so, exposes the injustice more sharply than lawful protest can and forces authorities to defend the rule in public.

Advocates of the strike argue that protest only bites when it withdraws something the powerful depend on, and that a collective refusal to work converts a grievance into leverage that cannot be ignored or simply waited out.

On this view no single tactic is best in general: proponents argue that the right method follows from what protesters want, who holds the power they are contesting, and what risks those protesters can afford to carry.
