Is it good to do yoga during your period?

It is said that during menstruation days is recommended to stop doing yoga, especially inversions. However, others argue that doing yoga on one's period can soothe period pain and even help to regulate periods. Can you continue to practice yoga during your period? Or is it detrimental to your health?
