Matt is a political scientist specializing in American politics and survey methodology. His dissertation project, Measuring Political Misperceptions, develops new conceptual and empirical tools for examining false beliefs and partisan bias. Other ongoing projects examine public support for democracy and how voters hold politicians accountable for their performance and actions. His research has been published in The American Political Science Review, The Journal of Politics, Political Behavior, and Electoral Studies.
