The Argument
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the perfect ending to a beloved series. It was exciting and well-executed, including excellent acting and gorgeous visuals. It does a great job of wrapping everything up and giving a satisfying ending. Clearly, the audience agrees. Deathly Hallows Part 2 has the highest rating of the series with Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 96% approval rating.[1]
This was a well-paced and thrilling film. It gave fans everything they wanted: the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort, Ron and Hermione finally getting together, and the victory of our heroes. All the Horcruxes were destroyed and the truth about the Deathly Hallows was revealed.
The battle was epic with all our characters fighting it out in one place. Unfortunately, we lost many beloved characters, but we also saw the demise of the most hated, including Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange. We also saw Snape’s backstory in the Pensieve. This was a long time coming and finally confirmed that Dumbledore was right about Snape. Dumbledore also appeared to give some final wisdom to Harry after his noble sacrifice. It was the ending the fans deserved.
Counter arguments
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 focused too much on showy battle scenes and not enough on the narrative. The film did not do a good job wrapping up all the storylines and provided only vague explanations for many of the ongoing plot points such as why Snape was actually good. Also, the film did not explain why Harry was a Horcrux (it wasn’t explained why Horcruxes can be made by accident and why it had to go into a living person instead of a nearby object). The film pointed out all the plot holes and left the audience with a lot of questions.
