What is the best Harry Potter movie?
Back to question

The Half-Blood Prince has the most emotional turns and best cinematography

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has the most emotional turns. It is the funniest film, but it also has many moments that will break your heart. The film also has the best cinematography with stunning visuals.

The Argument

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has the most emotional turns and the best cinematography. The film swings from hilarious to heartbreaking, making it the funniest of the series. Horace Slughorn, the teen love triangle drama where everyone refuses to admit their feelings, and Harry’s hilarious actions while on liquid luck are all humorous highlights of the film. Viewers also expereince Harry and Ginny’s first kiss. This film is also haunting and heartbreaking. We see the destruction that Voldemort and his Death Eaters are causing. Draco Malfoy’s tormented and conflicted emotional journey over being assigned the task to murder Dumbledore is moving, making the audience pity Draco. Snape also commands the audience's attention as we try to figure out which side he is on. Actor Alan Rickman did a great job capturing this complexity. In the end, the Half-Blood Prince shows Snape’s seeming to betray Dumbledore when, in a shocking scene, Snape kills Dumbledore. His death was somber and set the tone for the Deathly Hallows. This film also has the best cinematography; the visuals are stunning. Cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel gave the film an ominous mood with his use of grays and lightings. This is the last film where the kids are students at Hogwarts and the cinematography was made to feel like the Hogwarts was fading from memory. This fantastic work meant that Half-Blood Prince was the only Harry Potter film nominated for an Oscar for Best Cinematography.[1]

Counter arguments

There was too much teen romance drama and not enough magic. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince also does not show enough of the backstory that is present in the book. It doesn’t show enough of the memories of Voldemort in the Pensieve. This is necessary to understand Voldemort. The film also does not provide enough explanation of Horcruxes.
