The Argument
During his time as Vice President, Joe Biden has proved that he will be an advocate for women's equality and promote policy for women's rights. During his tenure as Vice President to Barack Obama from 2008-2016, Biden helped draft multiple women's anti-violence acts and fair pay acts to increase women's equality.[1]
Outside of his political life, Joe Biden has a reputation amongst his female staff of treating them equitably with men. Biden ensures women are receiving equal pay and befits and gives women equal opportunities for growth and support within his campaign. [2] Importantly, Joe Biden also selected a woman, Kamala Harris, to run with him as Vice President.
Biden has also made it clear that increasing women's equity and equality will be a goal of his if he wins the 2020 US Presidential Election. Biden pledged to increase affordable child care and paid parental leave options.[3] Biden has also pledged to end violence against women in the United States and abroad.[1]
Joe Biden should be elected the next President of the United States because women make up 50% of the United States population, and he will help them live better lives and gain the rights they deserve,
Counter arguments
In recent years, many women have come forward accusing Joe Biden of inappropriate conduct and behavior spanning back almost 30 years.[4]
Furthermore, in an important sexual assault case in the 1990s, Joe Biden failed to call on key witnesses for the woman on the stand and allowed men to harass and berate her with questions. [5] Joe Biden's women's agenda is only present on his campaign to appease women and save face.
Joe Biden's campaign will not follow through on the promises he is making to women. He has treated them without respect in the past and will continue to do so.
