Trump directed over $200 million to technology education grants for women and programs that encourage participation in STEM careers. Together with Ivanka, Trump believes that empowering women to pursue careers is crucial for economic progress both in the US and abroad.

A single STEM-grant initiative is a narrow basis on which to decide how women should vote. Opponents weigh it against the issues many women rank higher — reproductive rights, healthcare access, the gender pay gap and judicial appointments that bear on all of these — where they judge the record very differently. Continuing federal STEM funding is also partly a continuation of existing programmes rather than a distinctive new commitment. One favourable line item does not settle a voting decision that voters make across a candidate's whole platform and record.
