The Argument
Animals have full access to any medical care they need through zoos. They constantly monitor each animals' health and wellbeing and are able to provide surgery and medication if needed.
Most zoos are open with how they provide care to animals.[1] They want the public to know how advanced their medical care is and to prove they can provide fo their animals.[2]
For example, the Pittsburgh Zoo has a sea turtle second chance program. They provide rehabilitation and release to sea turtles injured in the wild.[3]
Counter arguments
Underfunded zoos cannot give their animals the correct medical care. They lack the knowledge and research to properly care for a wild animal and are unable to help if it becomes ill. Without the right medical care, animals are not benefitting from being in captivity.
