The Argument

As with any emergency situation, the internet has been overrun with misinformation regarding coronavirus. From repeated assertions that your nephew's cousin's pastor's long lost twin has the inside scoop on upcoming martial law,[1] to being told that 5G is actually causing all of this[2], it can be hard to know what to trust. One of the best things you can do to help others is to ensure you are not spreading fear or even putting others' health at risk by ensuring anything you share is true. Ensure the information you're receiving has a source, and that this source is a reputable one like the World Health Organisation, the Center for Disease Control, a public health body (like the NHS), or a government website. Make sure you check these sources for yourself, rather than trusting a third party who simply is claiming these organisations have said something, or trusting a screenshot. Alternatively, check a dedicated fact checking site like Full Fact.[3]
