- RM is the best BTS member

RM is the best rapper in BTS
RM is BTS's lead rapper and has found success with his rapping even outside of BTS.
The argument
The case for RM rests on evidence that can be assessed independently of the group, which is what distinguishes it from arguments based on popularity within the fandom. RM, also known as RapMonster and RapMon, had established himself as a rapper before BTS existed. He gained notoriety as a talented rapper on his own merits before even joining the band, which means his ability was recognised in a context where no group identity was attached to it. A reputation built that way is a reputation earned against other rappers rather than conferred by association with a successful act. That early standing has been borne out by what he has done since. RM was the first member of BTS to go solo, which is itself a marker of readiness, and he has released two albums of his own. The later of these reached #26 on the US Billboard 200 chart, a placement in a general-market American album chart, measured against all releases rather than within a genre or a regional category. The two pieces of evidence work together. The pre-debut reputation shows the talent was real before the platform existed; the solo chart performance shows it carries outside the group, in a market that has no particular reason to favour him. Success at both ends of his career makes it difficult to attribute either to the band's momentum alone, which is the usual objection to claims made on behalf of any one member. This widespread success confirms RM's talent as a rapper, and since his rap work is the foundation of what he contributes, proponents conclude that RM is the best BTS member.
Premises
Counter-arguments
Although RM's rap success is admirable, this skill does not necessarily mean that he is the best BTS member. In order to win this title, a member must be a fan favorite, first and foremost. RM's rap success does not speak to his popularity with the band's actual fanbase. W It's clear that RM is the best BTS member because of his successful rap career.
Rejecting the premises
[Rejecting P1] Prior recognition and a career outside the group are facts about one member's individual profile rather than a comparison with the others, and no comparison is offered — several sibling positions rest on claims of the same kind. [Rejecting P2] Chart position measures sales and promotion as much as ability, and a single peak at 26 is a modest basis for a superlative. The premise also equates being the best rapper with being the best member of a group whose work involves singing, dancing and performance, which is the step the question turns on and the one it never argues.
